Crisis-induced population displacements can be triggered by famine, natural disasters, or conflicts.  Satellite imagery allows systematic monitoring of remote areas or areas whose access can be limited by difficult situations. The work performed for the Fragile and Conflict-Affected Situations (FCAS) team of the Asian Development Bank has been presented by Stefano Natali at the Asian Development Bank Innovation Fair 2022, in Manila. The study, aimed at identifying displaced population from Afghanistan to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, has been selected for its satellite and Artificial intelligence-based approach and the level of processing automation.

A summary of the scope and results has been also featured on the European Space Agency ESA news.
